A Whole Sandwich Wrapped into One Piece of Chocolate

peanut butter and jelly chocolate from Norman Love

The Dish:

Introducing Norman Love’s Peanut Butter and Jelly Chocolate. Exquisitely molded, coated with yellow and red colored cocoa butter, and filled with strawberry jam laid over creamy peanut butter, this chocolate is guaranteed to bring you back to your elementary school years of fruit rollups, gushers and oreo cookies. Willy Wonka stuffed a three-course meal into a stick of gum. Norman Love, master chocolatier, wrapped up a whole sandwich into one piece of chocolate. Now, that’s what I call contemporary American Chocolate Making!

Recommended devouring technique: Bite the chocolate in half, chew for a second, and then let the filling and chocolate melt in your mouth. Look at the cross-section and then pop the other half in for double pleasure.

Key Ingredients: Peanut Butter, Strawberry Jam, Milk Chocolate

The Place:

Walk into one of CocoaBella Chocolate’s shops on Union Street or in the Westfield Centre downtown, and you’ve just entered the Tiffany’s of chocolate. On the counter is gem after gem, ranging from traditional French and classic Swiss truffles to contemporary and flashy American chocolates featuring unique flavor combinations. It’s hard to come by a better-curated selection of some of the world’s best chocolatiers in San Francisco. Thanks Michael Freeman!

Other Menu Musts:

For other equally exotic chocolates, don’t miss the Lillie Belle Farms blue cheese truffle (it retains the smokiness and saltiness, but you might not recognize its cheesiness), Michael Mischer’s Root Beer Caramel and Christopher Elbow’s Mango Ginger Truffle (Flavors rotate seasonally).

These chocolates can be found at CocoaBella Chocolates website. Each chocolate is $2.

Cocoa Bella has two locations:

1) Marina/Cow Hollow @ 2102 Union St
2) Union Square @ 845 Market in the Westfield Shopping Center
