Step 1. Choose a platform.

While Zoom might have defined 2020 and become a standard, it isn’t the only option for your virtual wine tasting party. Microsoft Teams or Google Hangouts are other great choices, and even FaceTime or Discord will work well. Whatever platform you choose, make sure to give your guests instructions on how to download it, just in case.

Step 2. Pick your wines.

Red or white? French or Chilean? In the world of wine, there’s a multitude of delicious options each offering their own flavor and history. You can travel through tasting, taking your guests around the world just by drinking Sauvignon Blanc. Or try your hand at tasting and then making your own fortified wine for an even more unique experience with an expert.

Step 3. Create tasting cards.

Use something as simple as a Google sheet for something more collaborative or a template as a tasting card. This is a place for guests to record their impressions and rate the wines. Include information about each wine you’re tasting such as where it’s from, what year, and what flavor notes they should be picking up.

Step 4. Set the mood!

A virtual wine tasting party needs the right vibes— that means music and backgrounds. Based on your wines, you can ask guests to use backgrounds of Italian or Australian vineyards, or the wine caves of Portugal. The wine region can also help with music choice. Step 5. Add some snacks.

It’s not necessary, but what’s a good party without snacks? Turn your virtual wine tasting into a wine and cheese pairing by choosing some selections to snack on as you drink. Olives, salami, fruit, and even chocolate all taste great with wine!

There you have it— everything you need to throw the best virtual wine tasting party. It doesn’t matter if you’re drinking red, white, or rosé, you’re going to have a good time!
