5 Places For Eating Healthy in San Francisco

March 14, 2017

San Francisco is a place that has almost any type of cuisine you’re looking for. As professional eaters, we spend a lot of time trying the bet and newest food the city has to offer, so we can pass on that knowledge to our guests. (Okay, it’s not all research…we just love eating!) Between all of our eating endeavors, we crave things that make our body feel its best. There are more than 5 places for eating healthy in San Francisco, of course, but these are some of our favorites.

1. Bi-Rite Market

5 Places For Eating Healthy in San Francisco: Bi

If you’re cooking at home, some of the best ingredients in the city can be found at Bi-Rite. (The market also has a phenomenal prepared food section, if you want to take something home instead.)  It’s a small store, so you may not be able to find everything you need there, but what you can find will be high quality. The staff is extremely picky about which purveyors they use, which results in great quality produce, meats, cheeses, and healthy prepared foods in their store.  If you’re curious about a certain food, ask the Bi-Rite employees, who are knowledgeable about everything they stock. (They’ll often let you try an ingredient, too.)  The name “Bi-Rite” is usually known for its homemade ice cream, but trust us that it’s a staple for eating healthy in San Francisco.

2. Gracias Madre

Pumpkin Quesadilla at Gracias Madre: Eating Healthy in San Francisco

We love a fried fish taco, but when we want healthier Mexican fare, a visit to Gracias Madre is in order. Gracias Madre is an entirely vegan restaurant, so it’s a great place to get your vegetable servings. Luckily, the restaurant doesn’t sacrifice taste. Hearty Quesadilla de Camote (sweet potato quesadilla), lentil bowls, kale salads, and tacos stuffed with zucchini, mushrooms, or cauliflower are fantastic. Gracias Madre also serves Madre Green and Tropical Green smoothies. Also great for your health is where Gracias Madre’s food comes from. The restaurant has its own farm in Pleasants Valley called the Be Love Farm.

3. Judahlicious

Judahlicious is one of the 5 Places For Eating Healthy in San Francisco

Is there any better way to start the day than with an acai bowl by the beach? If you’re willing to trek out to the Outer Sunset, you’ll be rewarded with the raw, vegan cuisine at Judahlicious. The restaurant and smoothie shop is located in a quiet neighborhood by Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach. Judahlicious even has a “nutrition” section on their website that encourages, “obtaining nutrients through food sources. Vitamins and minerals obtained through a well-balanced diet should provide everything a healthy body needs.” Their variety of fresh juices, gluten-free waffles, pizzas, tacos, salads, grain bowls, and chilis should be more than enough to provide nutrients during your meal.
